Box ScoreIn a dual match that lasted over four hours, the William Jewell College men's tennis team prevailed 6-3 over Ottawa University on Tuesday at Clayview Country Club.

The match opened with doubles competition, as Jewell (1-1) took two of the three matches. Marc Gartner teamed with
Amery Clews defeated Mekasha Tadious and Hunter Sanders, 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. Jewell's other doubles win was in at the No.2 position, as the team of
AJ Naanep and
Isaac Hamilton survived four match points against them to win 9-8 (8-6). The Cardinals combination of
Dean Pinhas and
Jacob Plant fell 8-3 at No. 3 doubles. Â

Jewell took No. 1 singles as Gartner earned a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win over Tadious at No. 1. Pinhas put the Cardinals within a match of victory with his 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Ottawa fought back to take No. 3 and No. 4 singles respectively before Marco Martinez earned the match clinching win at No. 6 6-3, 6-1 over Brandon Edwards.Â

To close out the match, a very intense competition took place in the #2 position, where Clews battled Sanders. Clews won the singles match in three sets, 1-6 7-6,  6-3 to finish the night for the Cardinals. Â

Jewell will be back in action on Friday, October 2 as they close out the fall season hosting Baker University at 2:00 p.m. at Clayview.Â
