Box Score The William Jewell College women's tennis team fell 8-1 to Harding University Friday afternoon at Clayview Country Club in Kansas City, Mo.
The Cardinals (4-6,) have now lost five matches in a row. The Bison improve to 4-3 overall.Â
Jewell jumped to an early 1-0 lead when the doubles tandem of
Claire Mackay and
Hannah Waine disposed of Arielle Butler and Emily Faulkner at No. 3 doubles 8-1. Harding tied things up when Gabriella Alves and Brittany Smyser won 8-3 over
Sabrine Navarro and
Lisanne Visseren at No. 2 doubles. In the No. 1 match Harding's Piper Huey and Laura Golubic used a late break of serve to defeat Jewell's
Savannah Drew and
Lauren Huddlestun 8-6.
The Bison then swept the Cardinals in singles play. Visseren lost a tough three set match at No. 4 to Smyser while Drew lost a tough 6-4, 6-3 match to Huey at No.
1 singles.Â
The Cardinals will return to action on Friday, March 25 against University of Illinois-Springfield at 1:00 p.m.
