The William Jewell College men's soccer team opened their 2016 campaign at home against Ouachita Baptist University on Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium in Liberty, Mo. The game also marked the coaching debut of head coach
Garrett Jahn.
The teams battled back and forth in the first half with each team seeing their fair share of scoring chances but neither team was able to find the back of the net and went into halftime 0-0.
The second period proved much the same with both teams missing scoring opportunities and both goal keepers coming up with clutch saves. The score remained 0-0 at the end of regulation.
With 2:13 left in the first overtime Dylan Tritton found Joey Zerbo towards the top of the box and Zerbo was able to get it by Jewell goalie
Quinn Ruggeri for the win.
Both teams finished the game with 16 shots and Jewell held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Ruggeri finished the afternoon with five saves while his counterpart Pacheco Nelson also saved five for Oauchita Baptist.
William Jewell (0-1) will return to the pitch Friday, September 9 when they host Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Lewis University at 7:30 p.m.
