The William Jewell women's basketball team traveled to Missouri S&T on Saturday afternoon where they overcame an early 20 point deficit but eventually fell to the Miners 62-52. Jewell drops to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Cardinals came out cold shooting just 33 percent from the field in the opening half. As cold as the Cards were, the Miners were just as hot, connecting on 57 percent of their shots, including six three pointers.
Jewell made a run in the fourth quarter as they pulled within six after two three point shots from
Maddie Nelson, with just under seven minutes to play. Both teams went nearly three minutes without a point before the Miners went on a quick 5-2 run to put the advantage back to double-digits.
Harrell hit a three point shot with just 13 seconds to play but it was just too little too late as the Cardinals fell by ten.
Overall, Nelson led Jewell with 14 points and three assists.
Katie Finn added 13 points while
Lindsey McCoy pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
The Cardinals will return home next week as they host Maryville on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. matchup with Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday afternoon.
