Cardinals Drop Heartbreaker to Quincy in Double Overtime

The William Jewell women's soccer team nearly pulled off the upset of No. 14 Quincy on Wednesday evening but fell 3-2 in double overtime. The Cardinals end their season with an overall record of 6-8-3 and 4-7-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 31:01 - Freshman Hania Crow scored her first career goal knocking in a shot after a deflection off teammate Gracie Schweinfurth after the the Quincy goalie attempted to clear the ball unsuccessfully. 
  • 44:54 - Just seconds before the half Allison Malott put Jewell up 2-0 taking a shot that hit the crossbar before recovering it's rebound and put the second attempt to the back of the net. 
  • 56:56 -  Quincy's Mackenzie Rief scored her GLVC leading tenth goal of the season off a corner kick to put the Hawks on the board.
  • 86:13 - With under four minutes left in regulation Katie Heiligenstein tied the game at two goals a piece scoring off a rebound. 
  • 105:28 - Maddie Bauer got the game winner for the Hawks in the 106th minute to give Quincy the victory. 

LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
  • Schweinfurth collected a game-high two assists to lead the Cardinals. 
  • Kayla Crowder topped Jewell with four shots while Aspen Hawkins added three. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals were out shot 38-16 and 19-10 in shots on goal. 

IN GOAL
  • In her final collegiate game, Cardinal goalkeeper Jordan Lewis set a new career high with 16 saves.
