The William Jewell women's basketball team posted a 80-51 non-conference win over Avila University on Saturday afternoon in the Mabee Center. With the win, the Cardinals move to 5-5 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1Q: The Eagles took their only lead of the game at 1-0 as Raven Bunn hit one of two free throws before the Cardinals started their onslaught. Jewell went on a 18-4 run led by four points each from Kayla Harrell and Lindsey McCoy to go on top 27-11. A three from Annemarie Boeh as time expired gave Jewell their biggest lead of the quarter at 30-13.
- 2Q: Jewell expanded their lead to as many as 24, taking advantage seven turnovers by the Eagles in the second quarter.
- 3Q: After the break the Cards continued to build their lead to as many as 38 by the end of the frame. Boeh again closed the quarter with a score, grabbing a steal and going coast to coast for the finish to put Jewell on top 70-32 heading in to the final ten minutes.
- 4Q: A jumper from Harrell with just under nine minutes to play gave the Cardinals their biggest lead of the game at 75-33 before the Jewell bench got involved. Macyn Wilbers came in to score four points over the final eight minutes to help put the game on ice.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinal bench outscored the Avila bench 26-12.
- Jewell shot a season best 53 percent from the floor and 40 percent from behind the three point line which is second best this season.
TURNING POINT
- A three pointer from Kaiti Butaud with under three minutes remaining in the first quarter pushed the Jewell lead into double figures at 12 points.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
- Harrell poured in a season high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting to lead all scorers. Hayden Butler followed with 15 points on 6-of-9 from the floor.
- Katie Finn collected a career-high seven assists.
- McCoy posted seven points, nine rebounds, four steals, one block and one assist.
YOU SHOULD NOTE
- The 80 points Jewell scored on Saturday is the second highest total this season.

The Cardinals are off for the remainder of the month of December. They return to action on Thursday, January 4, traveling to Rockhurst as the Great Lakes Valley Conference race heats up in the second semester.
