The William Jewell College men's tennis team collected a commanding 8-1 victory over Concordia University on Thursday at the Walz Fieldhouse in Seward, Neb.
Five different players for Jewell (2-2) earned two victories apiece against the Bulldogs (0-2), including senior
Amery Clews, junior Marc Gartner, sophomore
Caul Pearson and first-year players
Timo Kiesslich and
Hayden Fulk. Freshman
Bjorn Myers tallied one victory as six different Cardinals contributed to winning the match.
Jewell won five of the six singles matches and swept doubles play. Clews and Gartner won convincingly 8-2 at No.1 doubles while Myers and Kiesslich earned an 8-3 win at No. 2. Fulk and Pearson put Jewell up 3-0 with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
Three of Jewell's five singles wins came in straight sets, as Clews (No. 1), Gartner (No. 2), and Kiesslich (No. 3) won. Pearson and Fulk downed thier opponents 8-3 at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.
Myers lost a hard fought battle at No. 3 singles 6-2, 5-7 and 10-7 in the third that gave Concordia their only match win of the night.Â
William Jewell will return to the courts on Friday afternoon as they travel to Kearney, Neb., to take on University of Nebraska-Kearney at 1:30 p.m.
