The William Jewell College men's tennis team was defeated by Drury University on Saturday afternoon, 9-0, in their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo.
With the loss, Jewell falls to 5-8, while Drury improves to 13-2.
The Panthers opened the day with three wins in doubles play. The Cards were at its most competitive at first doubles, where first-year players
Timo Kiesslich and
Bjorn Myers battled in an 8-4 loss to Drury.
The Panthers then rattled off six wins in singles play to finish off the sweep. At No. 2 singles, Myers put up a fight falling 6-2, 6-4.
The Cardinals return to the court on Wednesday, April 5, when they travel to Emporia, Kan., to take on Emporia State University at 12:00 p.m.
