The William Jewell College men's tennis team was defeated by Quincy University by a score of 6-3 on Saturday at Reservoir Park in Quincy,Ill.
Jewell found themselves down 2-1 after doubles play as
Timo Kiesslich and
Bjorn Myers won a tight 8-6 doubles match at No. 1. Quincy took a 4-1 lead when
Brian Wohlers fell in straight sets at No. 4 singles and Myers fell at No. 2. Kiesslich won a straight set match at No. 1 and
Caul Pearson won his match in three sets at No. 3 that put Jewell down 4-3. The Hawks clinched the match with a win at No. 5 singles over
Hayden Fulk 6-4, 7-5. Marco Martinez battled but lost a tough three set match at No. 6 singles.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 6-9 overall and 1-2 in GLVC play, while Quincy improves to 2-12 overall and 2-2 in league play.
The Cardinals return to action on Monday, April 10, when they travel to Rockhurst for a GLVC match at 2:00 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo.
