Jewell Survives McKendree Rally for 68-63 Win

The William Jewell women's basketball team withstood a fourth quarter rally by McKendree to down the Bearcats 68-63 on Thursday night in Lebanon, Ill. The win moves the Cardinals to 9-8 overall and 6-4 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1Q: Jewell opened the game with a 17-3 run led by six points from Lindsey McCoy. The Bearcats outscored the Cardinals 12-5 over the final 3:33 of the opening to quarter to pull within 22-15. 
  • 2Q: The Cardinals opened the second quarter on a 6-2 run to push the lead back to double digits, while Natalie Closser's lay up with 3:44 remaining pushed it further, up to 13. A 7-3 run to end the period made it a 36-27 halftime advantage in favor of the Cardinals. 
  • 3Q: A three from Kaiti Butaud gave Jewell their biggest lead of the night at 45-30 with under five minutes remaining in the third quarter. A 9-0 run from the Bearcats pulled them within just four to end the frame. 
  • 4Q: After not scoring in the third quarter, McCoy got back in on the action, scoring five points to push the Jewell lead back to nine with 4:30 to play. The Bearcats made things interesting down the stretch pulling as close as 58-56 with just over two minutes to go. A three pointer from McCoy and seven free throws over the final minutes helped the Cardinals escape with their third road win of the season.

  • Of Jewell's 21 field goals made, 19 were assisted. 
  • The Cardinals forced McKendree into 18 turnovers, including 12 in the first half. 
  • Jewell was outrebounded 34-20. 

LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
  • McCoy posted a career high 22 points on 6-of-7 from the floor, 3-of-3 from the three, and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. 
  • Kayla Harrell added 17 points.
  • Rhyann Fisher and Adriana Rodriguez collected six and five assists, respectively.
