The William Jewell softball team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Sunday afternoon in Clermont, Florida, taking on Lewis. The Cardinals and Flyers split a pair of pitcher's duals with Jewell taking the opener 2-0 while Lewis grabbed a 3-2 win in the nightcap. The Cardinals move to 12-4 improving on their best start since joining the NCAA while opening league play 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- T6: Emily Hoover led off the sixth inning with a double for the first extra base hit of the game. Following a walk to Kelsey Morgan, Allison Rawls roped a pinch hit single to center to score Hoover and break the scoreless tie. (1-0, Jewell)
- T7: The Cardinals added an insurance run in the seventh as Madi Giles reached base via the walk and came around to score on a triple by Madelynne Greenstreet. (2-0, Jewell)
PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher:
Anna Biondo (6-2) tossed a two-hit shutout and allowed just four total baserunners while striking out four.
Losing Pitcher: Dara Sanders (9-3) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on six hits.

- B5: A second home run, this time Kaylee Prieto, pushed the lead to three. (3-0, Lewis)
- T6: The Cardinals got on the board in the sixth as Biondo walked to forced in Giles who had also reached on a walk. Beatty followed up with a single to left to score Greenstreet. (3-2, Lewis)
PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Greenstreet (4-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing three earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out nine.
Losing Pitcher: Shaw (3-2) earned the win, giving up just five hits and two earned runs.
