Cardinals Down Quincy for Fourth Straight Win

The William Jewell women's basketball team used a strong first half to defeat Quincy University 67-58 to win their fourth in a row and move to 13-10 overall and 7-8 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1st Quarter: Tied at seven early, the Cardinals went on a 9-2 run, capped by two free throws from Antoinette Mussorici with just under three minutes remaining in the period. The Hawks got a three from Michaela Gronewold with four seconds on the clock to make it a 21-17 game after one quarter. 
  • 2nd Quarter: Jewell maintained a four-point lead for much of the second quarter before a three from Sydney Offield sparked a 7-0 run to give the Cardinals a 40-31 lead at the half. 
  • 3rd Quarter: Quincy came out of the break and got three consecutive buckets to pull within two before Jewell responded with an 8-0 run on four consecutive layups by four different Cardinals. The Hawks pulled within seven with 1:56 to go in the period but a jumper by Natalie Closser and another three from Mussorici gave the Cards their biggest lead of the game at 12. 
  • 4th Quarter: Jewell pushed the lead to as many as 14 in the fourth quarter and never led by less than seven on their way to the win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell connected on 12-of-15 from the free throw line compared to the Hawks who attempted just six. 
  • The Cardinals owned the paint outscoring Quincy 32-18.

UP NEXT
The Cardinals wrap up the home schedule next Saturday as they host crosstown rival Rockhurst at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
