Jewell Announces Home Meet Protocols for Swimming

Prior to the first on-campus event of the year, Jewell Athletics has released the standard guidelines for home swim meets for the 2020-2021 year. All guidelines are line with the protocols set forth by the NCAA and the Great Lakes Valley Conference, although not all league institutions will operate in the same manner due to facility and staffing constraints. Jewell will continue to release competition guidelines for each sport prior to the first home event of the year.

General Standards:
  • All individuals, including spectators, must wear masks and maintain a distance of at least six feet at all times, unless on the starting blocks, in the pool or shower, or while being evaluated by a member of the sports medicine team. This includes but is not limited to when on the pool deck, staging area, team camp area, locker room or for spectators viewing the meet. Seating may be assigned.
  • All non-GLVC institutions will be required to have temperatures of all members of the travel party checked prior to entrance to the Mabee Center. GLVC schools will do so prior to leaving their respective campus.
  • Only two authorized guests of Jewell senior swimmers will be permitted to attend on October 9. For the final two home meets, all Jewell swimmers will be permitted two authorized guests. Authorized guests are defined as those who are on the official pass list with the compliance office no later than 24 hours prior to the meet.
  • No spectators from visiting institutions will be permitted. The meets will be streamed live on the GLVC Sports Network.
  • Thorough cleaning of all seating, locker rooms, bathrooms and pool area will occur before and after the meet.

Pre-Meet:
  • All teams will have a designated warm-up time (approx. 45 minutes)
  • Jewell swimmers will be limited to 15 minutes inside their respective locker rooms. Visiting teams are encouraged to also follow this guideline but may use the locker rooms longer at their own risk.

During Competition:
  • Only current competitors, six back-up timers, three officials, coaches from each institution, and meet personnel are permitted access to the pool deck. This total is never to exceed 40 individuals.
  • There will be team designated water coolers on the pool deck and in team camp areas in the arena.
  • All athletes on deck and in-the-hole for upcoming races are required to wear a mask, maintain six feet of distance from others and remain in their designated staging area until their race.
  • Each team will be assigned a side or section of the pool deck. At no time are personnel, coaches or other individuals permitted to cross into another institution's section.
