LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team challenged No. 1 ranked Drury University on Saturday afternoon in the home opener. The Cardinals fell 81-58 to drop to 1-3 but did hold the Panthers to their lowest scoring output of the season and nearly 15 points below their average.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams got off to a slow start on the offensive side scoring just nine combined points through the first five minutes and just 23 through the first period, with the Panthers leading 13-10.
- Drury started the second quarter on a 20-2 run to quickly open up a 21 point lead and looked to put the game away. The Cardinals, however, closed the half on a 15-6 run of their own, led by eight points from Lea Finn, to pull within 39-27 at the break.
- Jewell continued to cut into the deficit in the third quarter, pulling within nine after a layups from Finn, Sydney Offield and Libby Arnold. Over the final two minutes of the period, the Panthers went on a 9-2 run to expand their lead back to 16.
- A four-point play from Ainsley Tolson opened the fourth quarter to make it a 12 point game but Jewell could get no closer as Drury pushed their lead to as many 23 late.
FOR THE CARDINALS
- Finn led the Cardinals with 12 points to go along with seven rebounds, four steals and two blocks.
- Kiara Bradley added 11 points while Tolson finished 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
- The Cardinals won the battle in the paint, outscoring Drury 32-28 and out-rebounding them, 43-41, including 14 offensive boards.
- Jewell forced the Panthers into 19 turnovers, their most since February 15, which was also by the Cardinals, and only their fourth other times in the last 13 months that they have committed at least 19 giveaways.
FOR THE PANTHERS
- Paige Robinson, the reigning GLVC Player of the Week, posted a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds while dishing out five assists.
- Allie Clevenger added 11 points on 5-of-8 from the field.

The Cardinals are scheduled to travel downtown next week for an exhibition match up with Division I Kansas City on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Jewell is scheduled to resume conference play on December 18 as they host Southwest Baptist.
