GREENWOOD, IN - For the first time since 2011 the William Jewell men's tennis team sent competitors to the ITA Midwest Regional over the weekend. Senior Cutter Sanders and junior Pedro Braga appeared in both singles and doubles competitions, going 1-3 collectively. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals opened with doubles play, falling to Findlay's Alfredo Berlanga and Florian Bauer by a final of 8-1. 
• The Jewell pair dropped their second doubles match, 8-3, to another team from Findlay, Octavio Carrasco and Suh Kuyama. 
• Braga dropped his only singles match by a scores of 7-5, 6-1 to Findlay's Ivaylo Slavov. 
• Sanders fell in his opening match to Hillsdale's Brennan Cimpeanu, 6-0, 6-0 but rallied to defeat David Julia Melero of Indianapolis by identical scores. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• Sanders' win is the first for Jewell in an ITA since 2011 when Shane Gianetti advanced all the way to the final.

The Cardinals will host Jewell's first home event of the year on Saturday as they welcome Missouri Valley to town for a 1 p.m. match at Clayview Country Club.
