LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's and women's swimming teams closed out their final duel of the season with a sweep of Oklahoma Christian on Friday afternoon in Kregse Pool. The Cardinal women defeated OCU by a final of 144-94 while the men were victorious, 167-76. In total, Jewell won 22-of-26 events, including all four relays, capped by a pool record in the final event.
TOP PERFORMANCES
On the women's side, sophomore
Anna Lancaster led the way with three individual victories in the 50 fly (30.37), 100 fly (1:06.96) and 50 back (31.96). Two others,
Paige Taylor and
Emily Sawyer, also won multiple events. Taylor earned wins in the 50 and 100 breaststroke, with times of 37.61 and 1:22.14 respectively, while Sawyer, the reigning PNC GLVC Athlete of the Week won the 50 (27.63) and 100 free (1:01.41).
For the Jewell men, three athletes won two events each, led by the reigning men's PNC GLVC Athlete of the Week
Noah Witzki, in the 50 and 100 back at 25.90 and 57.52. Freshmen
Connor Sawyer and
Jose Carlos Sanchez also had two wins, respectively, in the 200 (1:54.69) and 400 free (4:15.38) and the 50 (26.53) and 100 fly (58.08).
The highlight of the day came in the final race when Jewell's team of Witzki, C. Sawyer,
Casey Bach and
Jacob Berkheimer put up a time of 1:34.84 to set the new pool record in the men's 200 free relay, previously held by Lewis University (2014).
