Cardinals Looks to Carry Momentum Into Final Home Weekend

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's soccer team returns home for the final time this season as they host Illinois Springfield followed by Lewis on Sunday for Senior Day.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • The Cardinals snapped a seven-game losing streak on Sunday with a 2-1 double overtime win over Southern Indiana. This was the third straight season Jewell has defeated the Eagles in dramatic fashion. 
  • Mikhail McComie scored in both games last weekend, his third straight game with a score to now lead the team with nine shots. The junior boasts a .889 shot on goal percentage, scoring on 33% of shots.  
  • Walker Bond got the game winner, his first career goal in the 106th minute to give the Cardinals eight different players with at least one goal on the season. 
  • Ethan Nichols posted the assist on the game winner, the fifth of his young career, already tied for seventh in the NCAA era. 
  • Eli Gratz added another 15 saves on the weekend to up his season total to 69, which is tops in the GLVC, and puts him at 129 for his career.
     
ABOUT ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD
  • Illinois Springfield comes into Friday's match with an overall mark of 6-3-1 and 5-1-1 in the GLVC, currently fifth in the GLVC standings. 
  • The Stars are second in the league with 15.00 shots per game led by Lars Brinkman who is sixth best in the conference with 2.56 per outing. The junior, Brinkman, leads the team with four goals. 
  • Some Browel is tops with nine total points, with three goals and three assists. 
  • In goal, Pijus Petkevicius has played every minute for UIS, totaling 32 saves. 
  • The Stars are led by Adam Hall, now in his sixth season. 
 
ABOUT LEWIS 
  • The Flyers come to Missouri with an overall record of 6-3-2 and 4-3-1 in the GLVC, after winning their last two matches. 
  • One of the highest scoring offenses in the league, Lewis averages 6.27 points per game, second in the league, and is fourth with 21 total goals. 
  • Domenic Baumann leads the offense with five goals while Jimmy Mwanga has two scores and six assists. Twelve players have scored, including five with at least two goals. 
  • In the net, Sebastian Doppelhofer has started nine-of-11 games and totaled 39 saves with 1.08 goals against average.
  • Evan Fiffles is now in his 30th season with the Flyers, arriving in 1992, with winning records in 26-of-29 seasons.
