Men's Soccer Takes on No. 2 UIndy, Southern Indiana on the Road

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's soccer team is returns to action this week to take on one of the nation's top teams as they travel to No. 2 Indianapolis on Friday followed by a stop at Southern Indiana on Sunday.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell is looking to snap a six-game losing streak, after a tough 3-2 loss to Missouri-St. Louis over the weekend. The Cardinals scored two second half goals but could not complete the comeback.  
  • After being shutout three games in a row, the offense was revived with four goals scored last weekend, by four different players. Cole Bulgren, Mikhail McComie, Keaton Wiley and Carson Lee each scored their first of the season. 
  • For Wiley, a senior defender who played in his 50th game last weekend with 4,323 minutes over the span, it was his first collegiate goal. 
  • Chris Lee had an assist in each game last weekend and now tied for the team lead with two and ranked 15th in the GLVC. 
  • Eli Gratz made six saves against UMSL to up his conference leading total of 54 (6.75 per game). 
     
ABOUT UINDY
  • The Greyhounds have been one of the more dominant programs in the GLVC in recent years going 32-10-8 since 2018 with an NCAA Final Four appearance. 
  • UIndy leads the league and is third nationally with 7.86 shots on goal per game led by Alejandro Steinwascher who is second in the league with 1.57. Steinwascher is tops in the GLVC with 2.00 points per game with five goals and four assists on the season. 
  • Dimitrios Karaousos has played all 650 minutes in goal for UIndy and has three shutouts with 17 saves. 
  • John Higgins, a two-time UIndy grad, is in his 12th season at his alma mater, winning more than 135 games. 
 
ABOUT SOUTHERN INDIANA 
  • Southern Indiana is 4-4 on the season and currently riding a three-game winning streak after two victories last weekend. 
  • The Screaming Eagles are led offensively by Zach Barton and his GLVC-leading 1.71 shots on goal per game and three game winning goals. Barton and Zach Schoenstein each have four goals on the season. 
  • Brian Winkler is tops in the GLVC and eighth in Division with a team-high six assists. 
  • In goal Justin Faas has started all eight games and boasts 39 saves and one shutout. 
  • Mat Santoro is in his 13th season leading Southern Indiana and is the Eagles' all-time winningest coach.
