Men's Soccer Travels to Lewis, Illinois Springfield

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's soccer team has an opportunity to move up in the GLVC standings this week as they take on Lewis and Illinois Springfield, the two teams directly ahead of them.

🟢 Spectators are permitted at Lewis University and are asked to complete the COVID-19 screening formprior to arrival. Fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs as bleacher seating will be limited or closed entirely. Pets are not permitted.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell is coming off a 1-1 weekend as they defeated Southern Indiana, 3-2, before falling to No. ranked UIndy, 2-0. 
  • Sophomore Carson Lee had one of the best performances of his young career, scoring two goals in a span of less than six minutes against Southern Indiana. 
  • Despite falling on Sunday, the Cardinals posted a season-high 11 shots against the ranked Greyhounds, led by three from Alex Thiessen. The senior, who also scored against USI on Friday, is second on the team with eight shots and tied with Lee for the lead with two goals. 
  • Ethan Nichols had an assist on Friday and now leads the team with two. The freshman is also tops on the team with an .857 shot on goal percentage, as six of his seven shots have been on target, including one goal. 
  • Eli Gratz has posted a career-high seven saves in two of the last three games, including against No. 2 UIndy. The freshman leads the GLVC with 35 total saves this season. 
     
ABOUT LEWIS 
  • Lewis enters the week at 2-4-1 overall and are coming off a 2-1 victory over Truman. 
  • Domenic Baumann leads the Flyers with three goals and two assists for a team-high eight points. He has only taken nine shots this season but seven have been on target. 
  • Five other players have one goal apiece as Lewis is 10th in the league with eight total goals and 1.14 per contest. 
  • Will Maurice has played all 653 minutes in goal and has a save percentage of .600. 
  • Evan Fiffles has been with the Flyers since 1992, winning nine regular season GLVC Championships.  

ABOUT ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD
  • UIS is 2-2-3 coming into the weekend, and like the Cardinals, split last weekend, defeating Lewis, 2-1 and falling to Quincy by the same score. 
  • The Stars have scored just four goals this season, all coming from different players. Lars Brinkman leads the team with 15 shots, 11 have been on goal.
  • Pijus Petkevicius has started all seven games in goal for UIS, making 26 saves and allowing just four goals.
