Jewell Falls in Non-Conference Battle with Missouri Southern

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team took a break from GLVC play on Tuesday, taking on Missouri Southern. The Cardinals fell 5-0 and 9-3 in the doubleheader to drop to 6-18 on the season. 

GAME ONE
Jewell 0, Missouri Southern 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After four scoreless innings, the Lions scored four runs on three hits to break things open. 
  • Missouri Southern added an additional unearned run in the top of the sixth to bring the score to the final of 5-0. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Jewell was limited to three hits, one each from Allison Rawls, Chloe Murphy and Aly Manhart
  • Manhart (2-8) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs while striking out four. 

FOR THE LIONS
  • The Lions finished with seven hits, led by two from Josie Tofpi.
  • Adrianna Young scored two runs. 
  • Abby Atkin (6-4) got the win, working six innings, allowing just three hits. 

GAME TWO
Jewell 3, Missouri Southern 9

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell jumped out on top early in game two, scoring three runs on three hits. After free passes to the first two batters, Allison Rawls singled to load the bases. Murphy sent a sac fly to right field scoring Sabrina Olmo before Tori Farr singled through the right side to plate two more. 
  • MSSU tied the game in the top of the third, scoring three runs on three hits. 
  • The Lions broke things open in the fifth, plating five runs on four hits before adding another score in the sixth frame. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Kenzie Jones had two hits for the Cardinals who finished with six total. 
  • Jewell swiped four bases, one apiece by Olmo, Farr, Jones and Payton Totzke
  • Sammie Welt (2-3) took the loss, working 1.2 innings. 
     
FOR THE LIONS
  • Makaila Leonhart posted four hits while scoring three runs for MSSU. 
  • Bailey Lacy (2-1) earned the win, throwing 6.2 innings in relief, striking out nine. 

UP NEXT
Jewell is back to GLVC play on Saturday as they travel to Southwest Baptist for a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
