Another Walk Off Lifts Cardinals to Sweep of Truman

LIBERTY, Mo. - For the third time on the weekend, the William Jewell softball team earned a walk off win to defeat Truman, 10-9. The Cardinals also took game one by a final of 6-4 to sweep the weekend.

GAME ONE
Jewell 6, Truman 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell got the scoring started early in game one as Lauren Ledbetter drew a bases loaded walk, followed by a wild pitch that allowed Aly Manhart to score and put the Cards up 2-0 early. 
  • Breianna Klein led off the second with a solo home run to the cut Jewell lead in half but Hailey Wall countered in the fourth with a solo bomb of her own to push the lead to 3-1. 
  • An error allowed the Bulldogs to score one run in the fifth and cut the lead to one. 
  • Wall came up big again in the fifth frame, with another home run, this time a two-run shot and expand the Cardinal lead to three. 
  • Truman got two runs on two hits in the sixth but Allison Rawls singled up the middle in the home half of the inning to add an insurance run. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Rawls led the Cardinals with three hits while Wall added two, both home runs, along with two from Tori Farr and Sabrina Olmo. 
  • Sammie Welt (4-3) picked up the win, working the final four innings, striking out three. 
 
GAME TWO 
Jewell 10, Truman 9

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Truman scored one in the top of the first, Jewell responded with three in the bottom of the frame on RBI from Ledbetter and Sophia Lopez to take a 3-1 lead. 
  • Truman exploded for seven runs on four hits to break things open in the second. The Cardinals got two runs back in the home half of the inning, as Farr singled through the left side followed by an RBI double from Ledbetter. 
  • Trailing by four in the fourth frame, Farr and Ledbetter again came through with back-to-back RBI doubles to pull the Cardinals within one, 9-8. 
  • In the fifth, Kenzie Jones singled and advanced to third and eventually crossed the plate on a wild pitch to tie things up at nine. 
  • In the bottom of the seventh with two outs Farr singled to left field and advanced to third on a Ledbetter single up the middle. Wall came through once again with the big hit to score Farr and give the Cardinals the walk off win. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Farr and Ledbetter each posted four hits. The senior Farr, added two RBI and three runs while Ledbetter drove in four. 
  • Welt (5-3) earned her second relief win of the day, working the final 5.1 innings, allowing just two hits and two walks. 

UP NEXT 
Jewell will host Lincoln University on Wednesday at 3 p.m. for their final non-conference action of the season.
