Men's Soccer Hosts Missouri S&T, Drury in GLVC Action

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's soccer team gets set for the first full week of Great Lakes Valley Conference action this week as they play host to Missouri S&T on Friday followed by Drury on Sunday afternoon.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell is coming off a big 1-0 win over Southwest Baptist as Jack Mason hit the game winner in the 41st minute. 
  • The Cardinals posted a season-high 17 shots on Sunday and enter the week ranked sixth in the GLVC with 12.67 per game. Ethan Nichols leads the way with eight, including four on goal, while Walker Bond (4 SOG), and Carson Lee (3 SOG) follow with six apiece. 
  • Cole Bulgren had the assist on Sunday against the Bearcats, the first of the season for the sophomore, and the third of his career. 
  • Eli Gratz continues to show he is one of the top young keepers in the GLVC, posting a career high nine saves with a shutout last week. The sophomore is second in the league with a save percentage of .810. He has already moved into fourth place on Jewell's NCAA era career record chart with 77 total saves through 16 games. 
     
ABOUT MISSOURI S&T
  • Missouri S&T enters the week on a roll, with two big wins last week, the first a shutout of No. 19 Northeastern before storming back from two goals down to defeat Quincy 4-3. 
  • All five goals scored this season for the Miners have been by different players, as none have more than four total shots. Grant Pohlman is one of two players that have four shots, all on goal, but does not have a score yet, but has recorded an assist. 
  • The only keeper in the league with a save percentage better than that of Jewell's Eli Gratz is S&T's Davis Joseph at 1.000, with seven saves and no goals allowed. Michael Sallee has also seen action in the net, starting two games with 11 saves a .647 save percentage with three goals allowed. 
  • Robert Cummings is back for his fourth season with the Miners. The former Lindenwood player, spent time at Cal State-Monterey Bay prior to returning to the Midwest. 
 
ABOUT DRURY
  • Drury enters the weekend at 1-3 on the season but has face stiff competition in the early going with close losses to No. 19 Northeastern State and No. 11 West Texas A&M. The Panthers defeated Truman 1-0 in their GLVC opener. 
  • Drury averages just 5.75 shots per game, 14th in the GLVC but have made the most of their opportunities scoring on 3-of-7 shots on goal, including a team goal against Truman. Joshua Lewis-Evans and Jacob Schmidt have scored the other goals for the Panthers. 
  • Yannick Lamers has started three of four games for Drury in goal, posting 10 saves and a shutout while allowing four goals.  
  • Ben Taylor is now in his fifth season with his alma mater, holding a 25-34-7 mark.
