Cardinals Return Home to Host McKendree and UMSL

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's soccer team is back in Greene Stadium this weekend as they host McKendree on Friday followed by Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday afternoon.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell is coming off a 2-1 loss to Maryville but saw some positive things, particularly early as the Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute after a quick goal. 
  • Alex Johnson scored the first goal of her Cardinal career on Sunday with the header in the eighth minute to give Jewell the lead. This marked the 25th career goal for the fifth year senior who spent her undergraduate years at Maryville.
  • Clara Fronabarger recorded her first career assist with the cross from the deep right corner over to Johnson. The freshman is second on the team with 13 total shots. 
  • Emily Glassman has taken over the keeper duties recently and has put up 28 saves during that time propelling her third in the GLVC and tops in the league with 7.00 saves per game. 

ABOUT McKENDREE
  • The reigning GLVC champions, McKendree enters the week at 5-1-2 on the season and 3-1-1 in the GLVC, coming off two wins last weekend over Quincy and Illinois Springfield. 
  • Anna Stiffler is the reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Week after posting four points with one goal and two assists. The sophomore is first in the GLVC with three total assists. 
  • Overall the Bearcats are the second-highest scoring team in the league, behind only Missouri S&T, with 13 goals, led by Emma Knoebel's three. Seven different players have scored at least one this fall. 
  • Merecedes King and Abby Tucker have split time in goal this season, each starting four games. The latter has 15 saves on the year. 
  • The Bearcats are coached by Tim Strange who has been at the helm for 13 years. 

ABOUT MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS
  • UMSL comes into the weekend at 4-4 on the season and 2-3 in the league, after snapping a three game losing steak with a 1-0 win over Quincy. 
  • Seven different player have scored thus far for the Tritons, led by freshman Jaycee Cotton's two. 
  • In goal, Brynne Qualley has started five games with 19 saves while Paige Schwartz has played in four contests and has a .933 saves percentage. 
  • Maddi Moon is in her second season at the helm of the Triton program after spending three seasons at Central Missouri, where she was a member of the staff on the 2017 Division II National Championship team.
