Hughes Scores Twice in Loss to Lewis

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's soccer team started strong on Friday night, scoring two first half goals against Lewis University but the Flyers responded with five in the second half to win 7-2. The Cardinals drop to 1-10-1 on the season and 0-7-1 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Flyers jumped out in front early with a goal in the sixth minute to Marian Pinto who broke away from a defender to put Lewis on top. 
  • In the 10th minute Kim Munoz sent a pass to Corrine Hughes up front who knocked it in from 20 yards out on the right side to tie the game at one. 
  • The Flyers quickly responded scoring a goal in the 12th minute but Jewell came right back as Hughes picked up a deflection from Munoz and send it past the keeper to knot things up at two at the break. 
  • Lewis scored five second half goals to put the game away.  

KEY STATS
  • Hughes scored her GLVC-leading eighth goal of the season while Munoz recorded the first two assists of her career. 
  • The Cardinals totaled shots, including nine on goal, led by Riley Frasure-Smith's five. Hughes added four and Riley Richardson three. 
  • Emily Glassman finished with four saves, while Katie Wagenheim had one. 

UP NEXT
Jewell is back in Greene Stadium for the final time this season on Sunday as they host Indianapolis. The Cardinals will honor their six seniors following the game.
