Cardinals Drop Two at Alvy Early Classic

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - The William Jewell softball team grabbed early leads in both games on Sunday but fell late 3-1 to Southeastern Oklahoma and 6-5 to Missouri Western.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell scored the first run of the day as Abby Vandiver singled, swiped second and scored on a single from Kenzie Jones
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Savage Storm got on the board, scoring three runs on four hits and held on for the win.

vs. Missouri Western (6-5, Loss)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After three scoreless innings, Jewell broke the tie in the fourth, scoring five runs. Jones singled and came around to score on an Allison Rawls triple. Rawls crossed the plate on Cure's single to make it 2-0. 
  • After Hailey Wall reached via an error on the Griffon first baseman, Ella Hoffman blasted a pinch hit home run to put the Cardinals on top by five. 
  • In the top of the sixth, Missouri Western tied the game with five runs on two hits, including a three-run home run of their own.  
  • The Griffons loaded the bases in the top of the seventh and got a sac fly from Chloe Armstrong and forced three ground balls to close out the game. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Rawls posted two of the Cardinals seven hits while Hoffman finished with three RBI. 
  • Kenzie Jones threw 5.2 frames, striking out three. 
  • Sydney Parra (0-1) suffered the loss, working the final 1.1 innings. 

UP NEXT
Jewell returns to action next weekend as they travel to the Lewis Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Illinois to take on four opponents out of the GLIAC and one from the NSIC.
