ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team earned a split with Maryville University on Saturday after a 13-2 win in game two. The Cardinals dropped the opener, 6-2, but improve to 6-16 on the season, 2-6 in conference action.
GAME ONE: Jewell 2, Maryville 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maryville took an early lead in the first inning on an RBI walk. The Saints upped their lead to 4-0 with three runs on four hits in the following frame.
- Hailey Wall cut the deficit in half in the top of the sixth with a two-run home run to left field.
- After three shutout innings, the Saints added two runs on three hits in the sixth.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Abby Vandiver finished with three hits, including a double, while Wall had two with two RBI.
- Kenzie Jones (3-5) took the loss, going 5.1 innings, allowing five earned runs.
GAME TWO: Jewell 13, Maryville 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell wasted no time jumping out in front in game two as Jones and Allison Rawls singled before scoring on a three-run home run from Wall, her second of the day.
- The Cardinals added two runs in the second inning on an RBI triple from Sabrina Olmo followed by a groundout by Jones.
- Maryville plated two runs over the next two innings before the Cards broke things open in the fourth, scoring eight runs on eight hits, including a two-run home run by Ella Hoffman.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell finished with a season high 15 hits as Jones, Rawls, Wall, Hoffman, Olmo, Kenzie Stahl and Sydney Cure all had two.
- Jones and Wall had a team high three RBI while Hoffman and Olmo each finished with two.
- Aliyah Santiago (2-4) earned the win, going all five innings with two earned runs while striking out two.
