Softball Drops Two at Rockhurst to Close Season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team fell twice at Rockhurst University on Saturday afternoon by finals of 9-3 and 6-4. The Cardinals close the 2022 season at 17-31 overall, 9-19 in the GLVC. 

GAME ONE: Jewell 3, Rockhurst 9
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals scored early in the opener as a two RBI single from Hailey Wall followed by a fielding error put three on the board. 
  • Rockhurst scored one in the third, three in the fifth, and fifth in the sixth to take the opener. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell had five hits, led by two from Allison Rawls
  • Kenzie Jones (7-12) took the loss, allowing four earned runs over six frames. 

GAME TWO: Jewell 4, Rockhurst 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals again scored first in the nightcap as Allison Rawls singled up the middle, scoring Abby Vandiver for the game's first run. Aly Manhart followed with a three run home run to make it 4-0 in favor of the Cardinals. 
  • With Jewell leading by one in the bottom of the seventh, Rockhurst hit a three run walk off home run to take the finale. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cards pounded out 10 hits, as Rawls, Vandiver, Manhart and Sabrina Olmo all finished with two. 
  • Manhart posted a double and a home run with a team best three RBI. 
  • Sammie Welt (1-9) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs in relief. 

UP NEXT
Jewell will lose six players to graduation this spring, including Jones, Rawls, Manhart, Wall, Kolbee Kealoha and Abby Dubinski but will return 10 letterwinners who appeared in at least 20 games for the 2023 season.
