LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team got their first Great Lakes Valley Conference win of the year on Friday night in a 3-1 victory over Maryville. HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell started strong, holding a 13-8 lead after a kill from Emma Lea Benney in the opening set. From there, the Saints went on a 9-0 run to go out in front by five and finished the set 25-18.Â
- The second set was a back-and-forth battle with neither team holding more than a three point advantage. With the Cardinals leading 20-17 after a kill by Samantha Thompson, Maryville rallied with a 3-1 run to pull within one but kills by Katy Garrison and Anna Godfredsen closed the set out 25-20.Â
- The Cardinals opened up set three with an 11-5 lead behind five early kills from Garrison. Maryville got back within two late in the set but an attack error gave Jewell the win 25-22.Â
- After a Jordan Collard service ace and Godfredsen kill, the Cardinals led 19-15 midway through set four. Maryville pulled back within one, late after a kill from Taylor Keck an overpass led to a big kill by Alex Dvorak to stop the run and a service error gave Jewell the set, 25-23.Â
KEY STATS
- Baade finished with 18 digs to join Olivia Tolberd (2015-18), Katie Damgar (2010-13) and Stefanie Richterkessing (2015-18) as the members of the NCAA era 1,000 Dig Club.Â
- Collard picked up a team high 20 digs while Bella LaPorta added 16.Â
- Dvorak finish with a double-double of 11 kills and 10 blocks.Â
- Samantha Thompson and Drew Baxter posted 22 assists apiece.Â
- Jewell outblocked the Saints 12-6, led by Dvorak's 10 but aided by four from LaPorta, three by Godfredsen and two apiece from Benney and Tatum Ernt.Â
