Jewell Downs Truman 2-1 For First Victory

KIRKSVILLE, Mo - William Jewell women's soccer got their first win of the season as they took down GLVC opponent Truman State University 2-1 on the road. The victory also marks the first time in the NCAA era that Jewell has beaten Truman. With the win the Cardinals move to 1-10 on the year and 1-7 in the conference. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a Bulldogs handball, Anya Linstrom converted a penalty kick to give Jewell the 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.
  • Cardinals added on to their lead in the second half when Kim Munoz received Linstrom's pass to boot the ball to the back of the net on a breakaway. 
  • A late goal by Truman would not be enough as William Jewell was able to maintain the lead for the win.

KEY STATS
  • Linstrom and Munoz led the team with two shots on goal and a goal, with the former having an assist as well.
  • Goalkeepers Emily Glassman and Jenna Skeeters combined for 3 saves in the victory.
  • It is the first GLVC road victory since 2020 against Southwest Baptist University.

William Jewell will be back home for their final home stand of the year, hosting the University of Illinois Springfield on Friday at 5 p.m.
