Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short at McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. - The William Jewell football team put up a fourth quarter rally but two late turnovers proved costly in a 35-14 loss at McKendree University. The Cardinals finish the season 2-8 overall and 1-6 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless opening quarter, McKendree got on the board late in the second period with a seven-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead in the break. 
  • The Bearcats added 14 points in the third frame to hold a commanding 21-0 advantage. 
  • Jewell got on the board early in the fourth as Keaundre McCullough ran for a 12-yard touchdown followed by Josh Click hitting the PAT. 
  • The Cardinals pulled within one score with under five minutes to play as Taylor Eggers found Layne Cavanah for a one-yard score. 
  • The defense forced a punt a fumble that was recovered by the Bearcats and ran 10 yards to the end zone and push the lead to 28-14. Another costly interception on the following drive ended in another McKendree touchdown and the brought the score to the final of 35-14.   

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Eggers was 10-of-28 for 133 yards and one touchdown through the air. 
  • Deldrionn Amos was the primary target, accounting for 92 yards on four catches. 
  • McCullough ran for 131 yards and one score on 17 carries. 
  • Ethan Fuentes led the defense with 11 tackles while Javion Macias added 10 including two for loss and a forced fumble.
