SMITHVILLE, Mo. - The William Jewell men's golf team wrapped up the 2022-2023 season on Monday at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship at Paradise Pointe. After battling high winds in round one, the Cardinals came back on day two for 36 holes and rose three spots as a team to finish eighth overall.
THE LINE UP
- Freshman Bryson Oots shot a 222 on the week, including tying his career low of 70 in round three, to finish tied for ninth. The rookie concludes the year with an average of 75.29 (24 rounds) to set the NCAA era single season record, besting Collin Kasitz mark of 76.10 from 2019.
- Stephen Radley improved by four strokes in the final round to finish tied for 32nd overall with a 235. The senior finishes with 77 career rounds played, tied for most in the NCAA era.
- Fredrik Hersley, another senior wrapped up his career strong, shooting a 72 over the final 18 to post a 238 and place 41st. He will graduate ranked third with 73 rounds played and a career average of 78.00, tied for second best in the NCAA era.
- Scotty Jolly also improved seven strokes from round one to round three to pick up a score of 242 and tie for 45th while senior Martin Stegberg was 52nd at 248.
As a team, Jewell also posted a season average of 306.42 to set the NCAA era record for team scoring average.
