Late Game Excitement Gives Jewell Season Finale Tie

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A late goal gave William Jewell a season-finale tie against the Lincoln University (Mo.) Blue Tigers. The pair of second half goals gave the Cardinals the come-from-behind tie, with a goal from fifth year Keketso Lipholo with three seconds left. The Cardinals conclude their season with a 5-8-4 record and a 3-8-3 GLVC record.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lincoln struck first with a goal in the 29', teams went into halftime at a 1-0 score as Jewell only had two shots.
  • The Cardinals offense began clicking out of halftime, with four shots including two on goal by Henry Staebell and Lipholo in the first 15 minutes of action.
  • Kaleb Fannin found the net in the 66', while Lincoln regained the lead 14 minutes later to bring the teams to a 2-1 score.
  • With time dwindling down, a corner kick ricocheted between players of both teams and ended at the feet of Lipholo who blasted it through the crowd from the back of the box to allow Jewell to escape with the 2-2 tie.

  • Umberto DiCarlo registered four saves in his 90 minutes in the net.
  • Jewell outshot the Blue Tigers 11 to six.
  • Lipholo's goal would be his second of his career, being his first since September 17, 2021 against Missouri S&T.
