LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team swept the first day of the home triangular to win their third straight. The Cardinals move to 8-8 overall after downing Wayne State (Neb.), 4-1 and Northwest Missouri State, 4-3.
GAME ONE (Jewell 4, Wayne State 1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wayne State took the early lead with an RBI double in the top of the second but the Cardinals came right back in the bottom half as Ella Hoffman singled and scored on a fielder's choice.
- Jewell pushed their lead to two in the following inning on a sac fly from Sophia Lopez who then scored on an RBI double by Hoffman.
- An error in the sixth allowed Hoffman to score her second run of the day to bring the score to the final of 4-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hoffman finished with a team high three hits and two runs while Addie Bell had two RBI.
- Avrey Reynolds (4-4) earned the complete game win, allowing just a single earned run with two strikeouts.
GAME TWO (Jewell 4, Northwest Missouri State 3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northwest Missouri State scored in the opening frame and added another in the top of the third to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Cardinals rallied in the bottom of the sixth as Tori Woodard's fielder's choice scored the first run while an errant throw allowed Bell to cross the plate and tie the game. After a walk to Sabrina Olmo, Lopez roped a two RBI single up the middle to put Jewell on top.
