ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The William Jewell women's soccer team notched their second victory of the season Friday night, a 2-1 road win versus the Lewis University Flyers. The win sends Jewell to 2-5 on the year, and marks their first GLVC win after three consecutive conference losses.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a Flyers goal five minutes into the game, a pair of back-to-back shots from Riley Frasure-Smith and Lux Sands kickstarted the Cardinal offense. The duo would send two more shots on goal eight minutes later but none would find the back of the net.
- With time winding down in the half, two more shots on goal by Frasure-Smith and Sands were stopped short, with the prior having more more shot before going into the break down 1-0.
- In the 78' after eight shots in the second half, Lux Sands was able to tie the game up with her second goal of the season.
- Six minutes later after a shot my Kim Munoz, an own goal by the Flyers would give Jewell the lead as they would hold onto their second win of the year.
KEY STATS
- Goalkeeper Emily Glassman would have three saves as the Cardinal defense would only allow nine shots in all
- Jewell posted 21 shots, 13 of which were on goal. 21 shots is the most since April 21, 2021 when the Cardinals hung 26 shots on Southwest Baptist during their spring season (due to COVID-19).
- The win marks the first time since the 2019 season where they have won more than one game.
