Cardinals Start 2024 Campaign With 2-0 Win


LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's soccer team won their 2024 season opener at home on Thursday night. The game was delayed by 95 minutes due to lightning in the area, but it quickly turned to all Cardinals as the night wore on. The opening win sets Jewell at 1-0 on the season, already matching their win count from last year.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 13' Lux Sands saved a pass from going out of bounds to the right of the goal, sending it back to Clara Fronabarger who sent it past the keeper for the first goal of the season, putting Jewell up 1-0.
  • Eight minutes later Sands netted a goal of her own on the left side of the net to extend the Jewell lead to two
  • Freshman Elle Haan would put up a shot before the first half ended, while Sands would tally two more shots of her own as Jewell would cruise to a 2-0 victory.


KEY STATS
  • The Cardinals collected nine shots on the night, with five being on goal. 
  • Senior goalkeeper Emily Glassman stood in the net for the Cardinals, collecting six saves.
  • It is the first season-opening win for Jewell since the 2017 season when they went 6-8-3.

Jewell is on the road for the first time this year, heading to Wayne, Nebraska to face Wayne State College on Sunday.
