LIBERTY, Mo. - After putting together a strong defensive effort in the first half, the William Jewell football team allowed 14 fourth quarter points as Upper Iowa defeated the Cardinals 28-10 on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Jewell to 2-6 on the season and 0-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Peacocks improve to 6-2 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Upper Iowa missed on a 37-yard field goal attempt, the Cardinals went 51 yards on 14 plays that took nearly seven minutes,
Bleu Renfrow connected on a 45-yard try of his own to go in front, 3-0. Neither team found the end zone until late in the second quarter as Upper Iowa caught a nine-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-3 lead into the locker room.
Jewell went back in front briefly, 10-7, at the start of the third quarter, as
Tyler Kubat ran away from trouble and found
Layne Cavanah in the back of the end zone for a 12-yard connection. The Peacocks scored on the ensuing play and added two more touchdowns in the final frame to bring the score to the final.
