WICHITA, Kan. - The William Jewell women's basketball team fell 65-54 to the hosts on Friday afternoon to open the Newman Classic. The Cardinals drop to 0-2 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Trailing by five early in the second quarter, the Cardinals went on a short run, led by five points from Alex McGarrah, to go in front by 17-15. Newman went back in front late in the half but buckets from Jariah Harris and Taryn Jacobs made it a one point game at the break. 
• In the third quarter, the Jets outscored 26-10, as the Cardinals shot just 17% from the floor while Newman connected on 67% and built a 17-point lead. 
• The Cardinal offense rebalanced and won the fourth quarter, 19-13, pulling within 10 in the closing minutes but could get no closer. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Harris and Farmer led the Cardinals with 11 points to go with nine and eight rebounds, respectively. 
• McGarrah added 10 points to give Jewell three in double figures. 
• Jewell shot 33% from the floor but were 3-of-17 from long range.
