Cardinals Falls to No. 3 Fort Hays State to Close Newman Classic

WICHITA, Kan. - The William Jewell women's basketball team took on third ranked Fort Hays State University on Saturday afternoon, falling 90-54, to close out the Newman Classic. The Cardinals drop to 0-3 on the young season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell kept pace in the early going with the nationally ranked Tigers as a jumper from Syderah Farmer's bucket made it a two-point game in the first quarter. Over the following 15 minutes, Fort Hays went on a 35-11 run to open up a 26-point halftime advantage. 
  • The Cardinals put together their best quarter of the game in the third, trailing by FHSU by just four in the frame, led by eight points from Jalea Price. Fort Hays outscored Jewell in the fourth quarter, 21-15 to cruise to the win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Price and Farmer each posted 16 points to lead the Cardinals with the latter grabbing a team high nine rebounds. 
  • Maja Komaszynska handed out five assists. 
  • Jewell shot 34% from the floor and a season high 41% from the three point line. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals will travel to Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday evening for a 6 p.m. non-conference match up.
