Late Goals By UIS Give Jewell 3-3 Road Tie

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A late goal by Illinois-Springfield gave the William Jewell women's soccer recorded a second tie in a row Sunday afternoon, 3-3. Jewell is 0-1-2 on the season and 0-0-1 in GLVC play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals quickly struck the scoreboard first when Jessica Baker notched the first of the two first-half goals for the Cardinals, nicely assisted by Elle Haan in the 9' of the game.
  • After a Prairie Star goal in the 10', both teams traded shots and substitutions until captain Lux Sands found the nylon with a goal to give Jewell a 2-1 lead going into the intermission.
  • Sands was back at it in the second half with her second goal of the afternoon to extend the Cardinal lead to 3-1. But two late goals in the final 10 minutes by the home team would end the game in a 3-3 tie.
 
KEY STATS
  • Jenna Skeeters tallied eight saves, the fourth most in a single game in the junior's career, while giving up three goals.
  • Sands now leads the team with three goals after her two-goal performance, the second of her career. While Baker's goal was the first of her Jewell tenure.
  • The Cardinals were out-shot by Illinois-Springfield 16-to-9.
 
Jewell has a midweek non-conference contest when they host the Griffons of Missouri Western on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
