Buderus Named Head Men's Soccer Coach

LIBERTY, Mo. – William Jewell College is excited to announce the hiring of Keith Buderus as the head men's soccer coach, effective February 9. He becomes the 20th head coach in program history.

"Keith Buderus stood out early because of his experience in an outstanding Division II program", said Senior Associate Athletics Director JaeLynn Ellison. "After meeting him it was clear he is a great fit for our men's soccer team, our department, and our campus community. He brings with him a desire to be successful and an understanding of what it takes to build such a program. We are thrilled to welcome him to The Hill and are looking forward to the next chapter of Cardinal soccer."

Buderus comes to The Hill from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs where he is coming off his third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament, as the Mountain Lions advanced to the third round in 2025. In his time at UCCS as the Associate Head Men's Soccer Coach, he saw an overall record of 55-28-19 that included Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) regular season and tournament championships in 2025.

While at UCCS Buderus mentored 25 student-athletes to All-RMAC honors, including 11 First Team standouts. He has also coached four RMAC major award winners, including the 2025 Defensive Player of the Year, 2024 Goalkeeper of the Year, 2022 Co-Freshman of the Year, and the 2021 RMAC Player of the Year in Alex Andersson. The accolades did not stop at the conference level, as he has helped mentor 13 student-athletes named to D2CCA All-Region lists, six United Soccer Coaches All-Region performers, and two D2CCA All-Americans in Andersson and Dani Barajas who were First and Second Team selections, respectively.

Before his time in Colorado Springs, Buderus was the head coach at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. accumulating a 32-14-6 record including a 23-5-2 clip in Region IX contests. In his four years on staff with the Plainsmen he saw a 45-22-6 record that included a 14-4-2 record in October and a .750 winning percentage at home. In 2018 his team was ranked as high as No. 12 in the NJCAA.

Off the field, 24 of his student-athletes earned Academic All-America honors while in the 2021-22 school year the team posted a 3.23 team GPA – the best for any team on campus and No. 19 nationally across all NJCAA Men's Soccer programs.

A graduate of Colorado State University, the Fort Collins, Colo. native earned a bachelor's degree in business administration: marketing in 2010 while also carrying his US Soccer National "C" coaching license and United Soccer Coaches advanced national diploma.

"I'm incredibly excited and honored to be named head coach of William Jewell College men's soccer," said Buderus. "I would like to extend my gratitude to Vice President for Athletics Chris McCabe, Senior Associate Athletics Director JaeLynn Ellison, and the rest of the search committee for their faith in me. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to lead the next generation of Cardinals. I am excited to get to work writing the next chapter of Jewell men's soccer. I am eager to help build something truly special, on and off the field. I am also deeply grateful to University of Colorado, Colorado Springs Head Men's Soccer Coach Lewis Wilcox, Executive Director of Athletics Nathan Gibson, our players, staff, athletic administration, and alumni for the relationships and memories we shared together. UCCS will always hold a special place in my heart. I am excited to get started in Liberty and will work tirelessly to compete for championships while representing Jewell the right way."
