JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team scored 28 first quarter points on their way to a 67-60 win over Lincoln University of Missouri on Thursday night. The Cardinals get their first of the season to move to 1-22 overall and 1-16 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Syderah Farmer hit a three just under two minutes into the game for the first of six Cardinal triples in the opening quarter. Tied at six in the early going, Jewell went on a 17-2 run, capped by a Taryn Jacob layup to open up a 15-point advantage as they led 28-15 after 10 minutes of action.
- Five straight points from Farmer midway through the second quarter gave Jewell their biggest lead of the night at 16. Alex McGarrah scored six points in the period, including a layup at the buzzer to make it a 42-27 lead at the break.
- Lincoln came out of the locker room and heated up quickly, outscoring the Cardinals 20-11 in the third frame to trail by just six heading into the final 10 minutes.
- Jewell was just 1-of-8 from the field in the fourth quarter as the Blue Tigers clawed their way back, making it a two point game with three minutes to go. The Cardinals were put on the free throw line 19 times in the final period, converting on 12 shots to maintain their lead and hold on for the 67-60 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Farmer paced the Cardinals with a career high 27 points, including 10-of-13 from the charity stripe.
- McGarrah added 16 while Jacobs scored a career best 12.
- Maja Komaszyska grabbed 10 rebounds while McGarrah swiped four steals.
- Jewell was 19-for-28 from the free throw line on the night while holding Lincon to 1-of-18 from three point land.
