Cardinals Bounce Back to Defeat Parkside, 5-1

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The William Jewell softball team suffered a morning 11-0 loss to Purdue Northwest before bouncing back to defeat Wisconsin Parkside 5-1. The Cardinals move to 3-9 on the young season. 

GAME 1: Purdue Northwest 11, Jewell 0 (5 Inn.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride jumped out to the early lead with three runs over the first two innings before breaking things open in the third with seven runs on five hits and two Jewell errors.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After three scoreless innings, the Cardinals broke the ice, as Emma Jane Ogle led off the frame with a base hit and came around to score on a bunt RBI by Sheyenne Kelch
  • In the fifth, Jewell added two runs on three hits to open up a three run advantage. Mikayla Chairez doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a base hit off the bat of Lexi Lopez. With the bases loaded, Avery Webster sent a sac fly to center to plate another run. Jewell added two more runs in the seventh to lead, 5-0 
  • Down to their final out, Parkside got on the board with an RBI but a fly out ended the game. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell roped out a dozen hits, led by three from Chairez while Lopez, Bennett, and Emma Jane Ogle each had two.
  • Avrey Reynolds (2-1) picked up the win with five scoreless innings with just four hits. 

UP NEXT
Jewell returns home to Cardinal Field next weekend for a four-game series
