Cardinals Win Home Opener to Remain Unbeaten

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's lacrosse team kept their unblemished record intact on Friday afternoon with a 16-7 win over Northwest Nazarene University (Idaho). The Cardinals improve to 5-0 on the season with the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Jewell took an early 2-0 lead neither offense could muster much, going more than eight minutes without a score. Jaxson Lenz converted on the man-up opportunity following quickly by another from Olivier LaPlante. The Nighthawks got on the board with two goals in the span of 20 seconds and trailed 5-2 after one period.
  • The Cardinals responded with three straight goals before NNU took advantage of the man-up opportunity to grab one more score at the half, as Jewell led 8-3 at the break.
  • After the Cards pushed the advantage to 12-4, NNU made things interesting, scoring three straight goals to the cut the deficit to six. LaPlante, Hudson Parnell, and Cole Van Nes scored the final three goals to give Jewell insurance down the stretch.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals totaled 40 shots with 26 on goal. Nathaniel Leroux led the team with six points on three goals and three assists.
  • LaPlante finished with a team high four goals with Parnell and Kade Barvitz each having two.
