Cardinals Push Truman State to the Brink in Season Finale

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team gave Truman State all they could handle down the stretch but fell just short 60-55 to finish the year, 1-25 overall and 1-19 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams went back and forth early until Truman State used a 9-2 run to go in front 16-9. Maja Komaszynska's bucket to close the first period, made it 16-11 after 10 minutes.
  • The offense on both sides was cold in the second quarter but the Bulldogs were able to extend their lead to double digits, heading to the locker room on top 33-17.
  • With Truman on top by 16 midway through the third quarter, the Cardinals began chipping away, going on a 9-0 run as four different players scored for Jewell who closed the gap to single digits.
  • The Cardinals made things very interesting over the final minutes as baskets from Taryn Jacobs and Alex McGarrah were followed by a three by Jalea Price to make a five point contest with less than three to play. Truman was able to push the lead back to eight before Price hit another three. With Jewell forced to put the Bulldogs on the line, they converted on both attempts to escape with the five point victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals hot 40% from the floor, including 53% in the fourth quarter, while hold Truman to just 30% on the game, their second best defensive performance of the season.
  • Jacobs finished with a career high 16 points with Price scoring 13 and McGarrah 10.
  • Rylee Thompson hauled in a game high 10 rebounds, while Komazynska had nine, as Jewell out rebounded the Bulldogs 38-32.
