INDIANAPOLIS - The William Jewell softball team got a win 6-3 over No. 9 ranked Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon to snap the Greyhound's 12-game win streak behind sophomore
Reagan Bennett's performance at the plate and in the circle. The Cardinals dropped game two, 9-1, to move to 10-18 on the season and 1-5 in conference play.
Game 1: Jewell 6, #9 UIndy 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the top of the second, Bennett gave Jewell the first lead with a solo shot to left field.
- The Cardinals expanded their advantage in the fourth, scoring five runs on two hits. Three walks loaded the bases before an error by the Greyhound shortstop allowed the first run to cross. Mikayla Chairez came to plate and made UIndy pay for the additional life, dropping a two out double to left field followed by a RBI base hit off the bat of Lexi Lopez making it 6-0.
- They Greyhounds got on the board in the fifth with three runs on two hits and took advantage of Jewell miscue to cut the lead in half, but the combination of Bennett, Claudia Robbins, and Olivia Wood in the circle were enough to close the door down the stretch.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell out hit UIndy 7-4, led by two from Bennett while Chairez and Lopez each drove in two runs.
- Bennett (3-7) picked up the win in the circle, working 4.1 frames with two earned runs on just three hits allowed.
- Wood earned her third save of the year with two scoreless innings in relief.
Game 2: #9 UIndy 9, Jewell 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The bats of the nationally ranked Greyhounds woke up in game two, as they scored seven runs on three home runs over the first three innings to break things open early.
- Emma Jane Ogle blasted her third long ball of the season in the top half of the fifth to get the Cardinals on the board a two RBI double in the bottom half, pushed the score to 9-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ogle, Chairez, and Madison Lehr had Jewell's only hits of the game while Tori Woodard drew a walk.
- Katie Heckman (2-4) took the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs over 1.2 innings of work.

The Cardinals continue the road trip on Sunday with a doubleheader at Lewis University with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
