LIBERTY, Mo – Playing with only 10 men for over two-thirds of the game in their season opener, the William Jewell Cardinals lost to the Newman Jets Thursday evening, 2-0 to begin the 2026 campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Just over 20 minutes into the match a pair of Cardinal yellow cards resulted in ejection and to play with just 10 men on the field for the remaining time. A shot from Jewell's Hugo Nordenburg just before the first yellow gave the Cardinals their first shot of the season.
• Teams went into halftime tied at zero after only a combined four shots through the first half.
• With under five minutes to go Newman crowed the box and was able to rattle off back-to-back-to-back shots with the final one making its way into the net after two prior saves by freshman keeper Alon Midwidsky. Newman tacked on one more goal 65 seconds later following a corner kick to secure the 2-0 win.

 
KEY STATS

• Milwidsky posted nine saves in his Jewell debut.
• The Cardinals tallied only four total shots on the evening from Kaleb Fannin, Kanosh Abdulameer, Noah Jimenez, and Nordenberg.
