Jason Ambroson was named the 33rd head coach in program history on December 23, 2023.

Jewell Highlights
• Led the Cardinals to the most wins (5) since 2014 and GLVC wins (3) since 2015 in his first season at the helm
• Mentored honorable mention All-American Keaundre McCullough who ran for more than 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns
• Coached six All-GLVC performers and two who earned D2CCA All-Region honorees
• Had four players earn GLVC Player of the Week honors, the most in any season of the NCAA era


Prior to Jewell 
• Owns a career record of 172-91
• Spent the last nine years at nearby Smithville High School, going 90-19 overall with a state title in 2021 along with three other semifinal appearances
• Served as the offensive, special teams and recruiting coordinator at Jewell from 1997-2000 
• Coached two of the top running backs in program history in who combined for more than 5,900 yards in three seasons 
• Mentored players to 29 All-Conference honors, one Conference Player of the Year and three All-America selections while on The Hill
• Also served as a coordinator at Morningside College and Central Missouri along with a graduate assistant at Iowa State and the University of Kansas, coaching quarterbacks, fullbacks, linebackers and long snappers 
• Was the head coach at Moberly High School (Mo.), inheriting a program that averaged less than two wins per year for 50-plus seasons and led a turnaround resulting in five district championships, three conference titles, five state quarterfinal appearances and two undefeated regular seasons 
• Won one state championship, eight conference championships and nine district titles at the high school level
• Owns numerous personal awards including the 2022 MSHSAA Coach of the Year and Missouri Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year
• Named the Dave Bassore Man of the Year by the Greater City Football Coaches Association
• 2023 Inductee into the Missouri Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame

• Earned an undergraduate degree from Iowa State in 1993 followed by a master's in education from Kansas in 1996
• Married to wife Andrea and two children, daughter Rylee and son Ayden
