The Jewell Cardinals came close to winning their second game of the season Saturday, but dropped a squeaker to Missouri S&T in Rolla 28-26.

A two point conversion try with 1:37 left to play in the 4th quarter was turned back by the Miners (5-3) when a swing pass to Chris Stuart in the flat out of a swinging gate formation was thrown for a loss.

Sean Shelton threw three touchdown passes to Jon Molzen in the game, and the Cardinals (1-6) had no turnovers in their second straight game.

Warren Frevert had two field goals for Jewell.

The Cardinals will travel to Rensselaer, Ind., October 29 to take on GLVC member St. Joseph's College at 12:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
