The William Jewell College women's basketball team defeated Northwest Missouri State University 77-64 tonight in the Winstead-Reeves Classic in Maryville, Mo.
The Cardinals came out firing on all cylinders and claimed an early 17-5 lead. Jewell held off a number of first half runs by the Lady Bearcats and led the game 39-27 at halftime.
The Cards built a 13 point lead early in the second half only to see Northwest Missouri close the gap to 4 points. That was the closest the Bearcats would get the rest of the game as the Cardinals pulled away late for the win.
Sophomore
Cassy Nicolay led all scorers with 25 points and also pulled down a game high 13 rebounds. Junior
Holly Switzer added 16 points and 7 rebounds while first-year player
Aerial Smith finished in double figures with 11 points.
The Cardinals, 2-0 on the year, will continue play in the Winstead-Reeves Classic on Saturday, November 19 against William Penn University at 5:30 p.m. in Maryville, Mo.
