The Cardinal men won their very first GLVC outing, outgunning Quincy University 78-70 at the Mabee Center Thursday night.
It wasn't easy. Jewell hit only three of 11 free throws in the first half, leading head coach
Larry Holley to quip afterward, "We tried not to get to the free-throw line (in the second half) so we wouldn't miss any free throws" (see accompanying video). The Cards trailed 40-38 at the intermission.
What the Cardinals did do well was shoot three pointers, hitting eight of 14 in the second half and shooting 68% from the floor as a whole.
Chris Uz hit five of his seven three point attempts and led all scorers with 19 points. First-year player
Dillon Deck had his best game as a Cardinal, scoring 16 points, and
Mark Mason chipped in with 14.
The Cardinals (3-2 overall, 1-0 GLVC) host Illinois-Springfield on Saturday afternoon at 3:15.
